For over 50 years, we have handcrafted quality furniture here in the UK, bringing true comfort to thousands of happy customers.
We’re very proud of our roots, starting in 1968 in the small West Yorkshire mill town of Dewsbury. It’s a place built on hard work and determination; two excellent qualities that we believe are at the very heart of our thriving business.
We don’t just make chairs, sofas and beds. We handcraft well-built, beautifully upholstered comfort furniture and have a well-earned reputation for quality and service. Our skilled craftsmen & women have decades of experience behind them and exacting standards that they are not prepared to compromise.
Our furniture is approved by independent Occupational Therapist, Julie Jennings Dip COT, HCPC, ensuring that each piece is designed to provide full postural support. With 59 stores and a nationwide Home Visit service, Julie is also instrumental in training our Comfort Specialists to understand good posture, the correct seating position and supportive transfer in and out of a chair.
This is just one of the reasons why our Comfort Specialists are able to deliver such a high level of assistance to find the best chair or sofa.
Our Royal Visitor was shown how the furniture is first visualised and
designed. How much time and effort goes into sculpting each and every
piece in our collection is amazing to see.
The Princess Royal was introduced to all of the departments that are
involved in the design and manufacturing process of our chairs, sofas and
beds. She met our skilled colleagues, some of whom are multiple generations
of the same family and have been with our business for many years.
As HRH is the Patron of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists, there
was a special resonance that all our furniture is approved by independent
Occupational Therapist, Julie Jennings Dip COT HCPC.
Here at HSL we value hard work, quality, and excellent standards. A Royal
visit was a wonderful way to celebrate over 50 years of achieving this.
