Right now it could be easy to focus on the things we can’t do or the people we can’t see. But let’s also try to remember we are all social distancing, and through this we are all connected.
Social connections don’t have to be in person. Thankfully, modern technology gives us multiple options for connecting; through video calls, telephone, messaging or social media.
We want to play our part in keeping our community connected, that’s why we’re introducing; “HSL Community”.
We have a free phone number you can call, Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm & Saturday to Sunday, 10am – 4pm. If you’d like a friendly chat, we have volunteers waiting for your call – ready to introduce you to our HSL community. Our friendly volunteers are there to listen to you, laugh with you, or even just talk about the weather!
We also know that sometimes you might just fancy a little distraction – that’s why we’re also focusing all our emails and Facebook posts on entertaining, uplifting or health related subjects.
We’ll be running quizzes, trivia, book club chat, photo sharing and lots more on our Facebook page.
Over the years we have found that our friendly approach to customers has been well received, especially from those who might be house-bound or have no local family.
In what was often seen as a busy world, we have we’ve tried to ensure our colleagues had time for our customers; to be able to chat and listen. Our customers have appreciated this and our colleagues have found it both enjoyable and rewarding.
As the country moved into lockdown, we became more and more aware of customers welcoming the opportunity to chat.
We realised that if our own customers benefitted from a chat during these times, many others who might be isolated may benefit from a friendly chat.
We asked our colleagues, most of whom are currently furloughed, whether they would like to volunteer if we opened up our telephone lines to anyone who would value a friendly ear during lockdown. We are delighted to say the response was very positive.
Hence, we started HSL Community Chat.
We would to take this opportunity to thank our HSL volunteers, along with the support we have received from ITV and McCann Media in helping us share this service.
