Morris Strawberry Thief

Morris & Co

Strawberry Thief

One of William Morris’ most popular and widely known designs. It takes as its subject the thrushes that Morris found stealing fruit in the kitchen garden of his countryside home. The design is intricately detailed with bold colours, initially taking William Morris days to print due to the bright colouration. The fabric was originally designed to be used for curtains, loose covers and on furniture so is ideal for our Fireside Collection and accessories.

William Morris was a British textile designer, poet, novelist, translator and socialist activist associated with the British Arts and Crafts Movement. He is best known as the 19th century’s most celebrated designer.  He was a major contributor to the revival of traditional British textile arts and methods of production. Morris championed a principle of handmade production, rather than the more industrial production preferred by the Victorians of the time.

Acanthus Velvet

One of William Morris’ most iconic patterns. Acanthus has a complex design, featuring the Acanthus foliage in a scroll pattern that creates an impressive 3D effect. The fabric is a large scale repeat which would be appropriate for large & small rooms, ideal as a feature chair with a plain design suite.
