Creating your own bookmarks is a super fun way of adding your own personality to each page, and can be a thoughtful gift for someone you love. They’re super simple to make and bring character to each page.
Create a range of designs or follow the theme of a specific book series you enjoy. You can even get the kids and grandkids involved to encourage them to read! Try sketching something with a dragon, a fun fantasy map or their favourite characters.
Bookmarks are a brilliant way of accessorising your books. They're a useful tool to keep note of where you are in a story, and if dog-earing a page feels controversial… they keep your pages neat too.
You will need:
- Water Colour Palette
- Water Colour Paper
- Paint Brushes
- Cup of Water
- Ruler
- Pencil
Optional
- Pen for finer details
- Laminator for long-lasting protection
Method
Step 1 - With you pencil and ruler sketch out 12cm by 4cm rectangles (these can be larger or smaller depending on the size of the bookmark you’d like)
Step 2 - Sketch a design in pencil over your rectangles. We did a floral theme, 2 quotes and a pile of books but you can make them any theme you’d like.
Step3 - Watercolour your designs in, have fun and remember they don’t need to be professional!
Step 4 - Wait for the paint to dry, add any final touches and cut your bookmarks out.
Step 5 - Laminate your bookmarks for extra protection.
And just like that you own your very own bookmarks designed exclusively for you by you. Celebrate by reading a good book, settled in your favourite spot with a brew and some bickies.
If you're gifting your crafts to a friend or loved one, create a hamper filled with their favourite genre of books and snacks.
Pro Tips: For an extra touch, holepunch the top of your bookmark and add a decorative ribbon.
