10 Fun ways to keep the Grandchildren entertained this half-term
With another half-term around the corner, it might be time for you to look after your grandchildren, and more importantly… entertain them. Spending time with their grandparents, whether you’re a Nana, Grandma, Grandad or Pops, can be super rewarding, and is the highlight of their educational break. It’s also the perfect time to create some cherished memories and
So, if it’s just for a single day or you have them for the full week, here are some ideas to keep the grandkids’ half-term fun.
Fun activities to do with Grandchildren
1. Make the most of the outdoors
Open your back door and let the kids run free, take a wild walk outside, or explore your local park. If it’s raining, grab the wellies and find lots of puddles. If it’s sunny, take out a ball and play some football or have a picnic. Either way, get everyone breathing in some fresh air for an afternoon.
2. Bake
There are so many delicious baking recipes out there, from a simple bake like cookies to something that takes a little more time and prep work, like a Victoria sponge cake. It’s a great way for the kids to learn life skills and you get a sweet treat that can be enjoyed in your favourite recliner chair.

3. Take a train ride
Trains can be a fun adventure your grandchildren might not get to experience very often. From sights zooming by to an exciting end destination, a train ride will be the talk of their holidays. For something different, there’s a variety of steam trains you can jump on to take you to a wonderful heritage site.
4. Go to the cinema
As we all know, the British weather can’t stay sunny for long, and the cinema is a fun idea for those days you want to leave the house with the grandkids but do something indoors.
5. Get crafty
Getting the arts and crafts out is a wonderful way to entertain the kids, get their imaginations running and produce a keepsake you can display in the home!

6. Visit the beach
Does anything beat a beach day? Keep an eye on the weather and choose the sunniest day to head out and see the sea. Take a bucket and spade, something to sit on and a spare change of clothes for the kids. The beach is a wonderful excuse to have a fish and chip lunch before collecting seashells from the sand.
7. Visit your local library
The perfect way to keep the kids engaged and having fun whilst encouraging their education and reading. Plus, visiting your local library brings a sense of community! Check out what events the library has going on when the grandchildren are off to see if there’s anything specific they’d be interested in.
8. Boardgames, puzzles, jigsaws or colour-in books
If you have the grandchildren for a day or even just the afternoon, get the boardgames our and have some fun together! You could also grab the puzzles and jigsaws to keep them entertained or have some down time with a colouring book and felt tips.

9. Have a spa day
The kids will love it, you’ll love it and it’s a brilliant way to enjoy some down time. Have a spa day with face masks, cucumbers and refreshing drinks, put music on or a movie and settle down on the sofa. A spa day is a wonderful way to sit, talk and spend time with your grandkids.

10. Visit a local attraction
Whether it’s a museum, art gallery or even the zoo, take a day trip out together and visit a local attraction. This is an amazing way of spending quality time with your beloved grandchildren, make some memories and take lots of photographs so you can look back fondly on your time together.
School holidays are always a great way for kids to recharge and prepare for their next educational step. Filling their time with memories and fun activities is the perfect excuse to spend time with the people you love the most, whilst taking extra stress off their parents. Enjoy your half-term with these ideas and find yourself on a new adventure.
