Rose Awareness Week: Flower Arrangements for your Home

Celebrate the beauty of Roses
As the sun brightens our mornings and our garden’s become a spectrum of shades, Rose Awareness Week is celebrated by those passionate about protecting and cultivating diverse rose species. And for those celebrating their June Birthday, the rose is your birth flower!
The beauty and simplicity of a rose has captured our hearts for millennia. They’re a welcomed gift on an anniversary, add an elegant lift to a wedding, and are a burst of colour in our gardens throughout the summer. They’re known for their naturally sweet smell, are a best friend to the bees, and Rose Awareness week is the perfect opportunity to reconnect with nature – whether on your own doorstep or in one of the UK’s spectacular historic flower gardens.
There are over 300 types of rose species, from the flowers that climb and trail above the ground, to erect shrubs and colours ranging from the sophisticated white, soft yellows, to the romantic red. The beauty and diversity has inspired many over the years, including writers, Royals and ancient traditions.
Roses are embedded in our history and culture. In the 15th-century Wars of the Roses was signified through the red and white petals, the Tudor Rose represented the healing union of the once-warring families, the infamous ‘Ring a Ring o Roses’ nursery rhyme has possible links to the deathly Bubonic Plague, and then there’s the symbolism within our monasteries and cathedrals. As the roses bloomed, so did our history.

Flower Arrangements: Advice and Trends
So, how can you add the beauty of the world’s favourite flower into your home? We've asked our Interior Stylist, Joseph Tremarco for tips, tricks, trends, as well as his favourite rose and a few other words of wisdom. Here’s what he had to say,
What's your favourite rose?
My favourite rose would have to be Winchester Cathedral. I love this rose for its classic beauty and strong fragrance. To me the Winchester Cathedral evokes a sense of timeless beauty and cultural heritage.
Are there any Flower Arrangement trends you've seen?
Bringing flowers into the home is one of the simplest ways to elevate your space, no longer do we need to stick to a shop bought bunch of flowers. Try looking around your garden, foraging on summer walks or taking advantage of online subscriptions to give yourself a little treat.
We are seeing a lot more country cottage styles in floral arrangements. These have a more relaxed and timeless feel to them. They are easily achieved by any skill level too. To achieve a country cottage style bouquet, aim for relaxed overflowing arrangements with a mix of textures and heights, using a variety of flowers and foliage.
Prioritise soft romantic colours and avoid rigid formal structures. Look for flowers such as Roses, Delphiniums and Peonies.
What are the benefits to having flowers in your home?

Using fresh flowers in our homes has a multitude of benefits, not only is looking at beautiful floral displays an instant mood booster, but it is the simplest way of bringing nature indoors. Keep it minimal! Ensure to use smaller vessels with just one or two flowers in. Placing these around the home to boost your mood each time you look at them.

Flowers can often be used for a way of changing your colour palette without the commitment. If you have been thinking of trying a new accent colour in your home, why not choose some flowers in this tone to try it out? That way you get to enjoy the beautiful flowers and see if the colour works in your space.

However, when thinking of the benefits of flowers in our home we must look beyond flowers, plants such as herbs are some of my favourite foliage to style with. I love to use them for their fragrance, rustic and timeless aesthetic and their ability to promote wellness and focus.

Using herbs such as lavender, rosemary and peppermint are known to reduce stress, promote mental clarity and even help with sleep. These work really well in a small vessel next to your bed. I like to use herbs like peppermint, basil and thyme in the kitchen for their subtle but beautiful fragrance. Equally, rosemary, peppermint and lemon balm used in a home office can promote alertness and boost memory.
What colours do you currently see trending?
As of mid-2025 interior colour trends are all about creating warmth, grounding and a soft contrast.
Brown is most certainly back, and I couldn't be happier. We are seeing less black and using browns to create a softer contrast. Think of tones such as walnut, chocolate and coffee. Try to use these tones alongside a palette of earthy colours, colours we would find in nature. For your neutrals look at shades such as Terracotta, Ochre, Mushroom and Sand.
